I had a wonderful time covering the Iowa Youth Institute at Iowa Sate University for the World Food Prize Foundation a few weeks ago featuring speakers such as Dr. Chavonda Jacobs-Young, Administrator and Acting Deputy Under Secretary REE, USDA and Kim Reynolds, the governor of the state of Iowa, Wendy Wintersteen the 16th president of Iowa Sate University and Adam Gregg the Lieutenant Governor of Iowa.
The World Food Prize Iowa Youth Institute (IYI) is a life-changing experience for students in grades 8-12, held annually at Iowa State University every April.
During this day long event students are able to explore majors and careers related to combating global hunger & poverty while also presenting their own ideas and solutions to real-world experts and professionals.
Since the inception of the program, the World Food Prize Iowa Youth Institute has engaged over 1,000 students from more than 225 schools across Iowa and continues reaching and inspiring students across our state to fight hunger at home and abroad and to explore STEM career paths.
Students were immersed into the world food insecurity and interacted with Governor Kim Reynolds, Lt. Governor Adam Gregg, Dr. Chavonda Jacobs-Young, Acting Chief Scientist & REE Deputy Under Secretary of USDA, world-renowned faculty experts and business leaders.
Thanks for having me, what a wonderful event to cover!
