Tessa Senior Sneek Peak | Forest City 2011 Senior

If your viewing this on Facebook head on over to our blog at https://www.ztsblog.com

Summer has been crazy busy for us lately! We had a wedding Friday in Clear Lake, went to a wedding Saturday as guests (how odd to NOT be in charge! ha!) and shot a wonderful senior session with Tessa from Forest City High School on Sunday night.

This weekend Tanner and I are headed off to Storm Lake for the Schuman/Hustedt wedding. If I know Jenn and Chad it should be a gorgeous day with one heck of a party to follow!

Jaz + Bailey | Forest City, Iowa | Senior Photographer 2011

Pushing our limits and growing as photographers is something Tanner and I really strive to do often. We try to be unique and different from every other photographer out there by trying out new ideas, using lenses that most don’t, and pushing our knowledge of photography in order to learn more and become better at what we do.

There is SO much to know on lighting out there that we felt like a few short months ago we were over our head with lighting knowledge and now are getting so quick at using our flashes on manual that it astounds me. We have all these awesome ideas and thought it would be the perfect time to try them out while I was on vacation from work for a few days so we enrolled some models to help with our latest fun idea!

Jaz and Bailey are both seniors to be at Forest City High School in Forest City, IA. Tanner and I were playing around with the idea of lighting long exposure sparkler pictures so asked them if they wanted to model for us and thus last Friday night we ended up on a gravel road just south of Forest City with Tanner running around like crazy behind them with sparklers, a light-stand with 580 EX II, a wide prime lens, soft-box and having fun with long exposures and explosives (ok ok they are just plain old legal and boring sparklers…).

We started off the shoot in Forest City on Tanner’s uncles land as we thought it would make for a wonderful grungy backdrop….however we failed to realize that there were mosquitoes EVERYWHERE! We got eaten alive!

After multiple bug bites we decided to get out of there (literally never packed up our light stuff so quickly) and find a more remote location so off to the middle of nowhere we went!

We broke out the flashlight for some fun panting with light with their first initials.

Then had the girls hold out 580 ex II’s with pocket wizards attached…ahh glorious! I can’t wait to do this with a wedding party!

Lastly ended up with some closeups with the 14mm and the other 580 ex II on a tripod for some back-light.

HAHA check out ‘ghost’ Tanner to the left side of this one!

Thanks girls for letting us shoot you we had so much fun!

Jenna Garner-Hayfield 2011 Senior | Iowa Senior Photographer

If your viewing this on Facebook head on over to our blog at https://www.ztsblog.com

Sunday evining we meet up with Jenna for some pictures. She is a to-be senior at Garner-Hayfield High School in northern Iowa and has aspirations to become a nurse after high school. Tanner edited all of these and I don’t know who annoyed him more to get them up me or Jenna! We were both super excited to see them!

We live in Iowa. Perfect time of year for some classy cornfield shots! Ahh hopefully get to take one of our July or August wedding parties into the fields again this year! I love shooting with the vivid green on the bright blue sky. Oh summer in Iowa!

Normally before senior shoots we scout out locations that we think would be fun. A few months ago we found this little gem and decided it would be an AWESOME place to take a senior!

We set up both 580 ex II’s triggered with pocket wizard plus II’s and back-lit her and used the soft box with the other for the light in front.

And of course we have to break out the 15mm fisheye for some pics!

Next we headed off to this awesome location Tanner found awhile ago a few miles out of Garner and it has so many great little spots around it!

We had Jenna hop up on some tires near the entrance and this one turned out to be my favorite of the shoot. Ahh 14mm f/2.8 lens I love you! It creates the best light flare.

Complete accident but MAN check out this sweet flare!

Last stop Clear Lake. Jenna had quite the audience from the Tiki Bar for these!

Can you tell she used to be a cheerleader?

Thanks for letting us shoot your senior pictures Jenna and have a wonderful Senior year!
